Hugh Freeze: A Controversial Coaching Career

Early Success at Ole Miss

In his first season at Ole Miss, Hugh Freeze led the Rebels to a 6-6 record in the regular season. He guided Ole Miss to back-to-back nine-win regular seasons for the first time since 1962. Overall, Freeze has a 39-25 record at Ole Miss.

NCAA Investigation and Resignation

In 2017, Freeze resigned amid scandal after an NCAA investigation implicated him. The investigation revealed a pattern of personal misconduct, including calls to an escort service. Freeze's departure marked a stunning fall for a coach who had achieved success on the field.

Continued Coaching Success

Despite the controversy, Freeze continued to find success in coaching. He spent four seasons at Liberty, leading them to a 34-15 record and multiple bowl victories. In 2022, Freeze became the head coach at Auburn, where he inherited a program that had gone 3-9 the previous season.
