Prehistoric Life: The Tyrannosaurus Rex and its Extinction

The Reign of the Tyrannosaurus Rex

The Tyrannosaurus rex, commonly known as the T. Rex, was one of the most iconic and formidable predators to ever inhabit the Earth. These massive carnivores ruled the late Cretaceous period, approximately 68 to 66 million years ago.

The Extinction Event

The T. Rex, along with many other dinosaur species, became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period. The extinction event, known as the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) extinction, was a global catastrophe that wiped out nearly three-quarters of all plant and animal species on the planet.
