Former Real Madrid defender Képler Laveran de Lima Ferreira, known as Pepe, has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 41-year-old brings an end to a distinguished playing career that spanned two decades. As the oldest player to appear at the European Championship finals this summer, Pepe's final match was Portugal's penalty shootout defeat to France in the quarter-finals.
Pepe impressed for Portugal at Euro 2024, making 141 international appearances throughout his career. He played a pivotal role in Portugal's Euro 2016 victory and won three major trophies with Real Madrid.
