80th Anniversary D-Day Commemoration Events Announced
Royal Family to Attend Commemorative Events
Buckingham Palace has announced that The King and Queen, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, will attend commemorative events in Normandy, France, from Wednesday, June 5th, to Thursday, June 6th, 2024, to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Special Events and Ticketed Showings
The events will include a service of remembrance at Bayeux Cathedral, a visit to the Pegasus Bridge Memorial, and a ceremony at Arromanches-les-Bains, where Mulberry Harbour was constructed during the invasion. Additionally, a special showing of the documentary film "Expressions of America" will take place on Thursday, June 6th, at the Arromanches 360° Cinema. Tickets for this event are required and can be purchased through the Arromanches 360° website.
D-Day Anniversary Tour
To coincide with the anniversary, a special 80th Anniversary of D-Day Tour will be offered by various tour operators. This tour will cover the planning and launch of Operation Overlord, the D-Day Invasion, and its aftermath. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore key historical sites, such as Sword Beach, Pegasus Bridge, and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
